Rare Books and Pamphlets Collection

Important facets of the Collection are: French law of the Ancien Régime, and French literary works of the 17th and 18th centuries and the Romantic era. Through the generosity of the Hannah Chair for the History of Medicine, the collection also contains a fair amount of books on the history of medicine. The oldest item in our collection is a manuscript Hours of the Virgin, circa 1450. A number of our rare books have been digitized and can be consulted online at the Internet Archive website. Holdings also include an interesting collection of Canadian pamphlets, the earliest published in 1774.
